Learning Activities
Activity 6: Guests Speakers
By listening to a guest speaker address specific migration issues, students will hear first-person accounts of how migration impacts the lives of real people.
Process
1. Contact one of the organizations listed below in order to request a speaker as a class guest or a school assembly.
2. After the speaker has made his or her presentation, students write a report on what they've learned.
Possible speakers can be contacted through Passages to Canada
Passages to Canada is a Dominion Institute initiative in collaboration with Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage and the TD Bank Financial Group. Passages to Canada has a national Speakers' Bureau of community leaders who have been immigrants and refugees to Canada. The speakers share their stories with youth and community groups across Canada. Passages to Canada also collaborates with World University Services of Canada (WUSC) to have current and former refugee participants in World University Service Committee's (WUSC) Student Refugee Program share their stories as part of the Speakers' Bureau.
